48- TOEIC - listening/reading

quinta-feira, 10 de fevereiro de 2011

This is a very interesting test where you are asked to read a composition . You need to be prepared to show a good and clear intonation. Let's practice it a lot of times .

The company Robo Ventures is based in San Diego and makes dog-walking and lawn-mowing robots which are sold online for approx. $2,798 each. The annual sales topped $300,000,000 last year and the company is planning to expand the business by creating English-Speaking Robots that it expects to be a hit in Japan where there are many English students who desire to have such robots to practice English conversation at home any time of day. Tom burns is the project manager in charge of the English-speaking robot project. He has been given a budget of
$100,000,000 and a staff of ten engineers to create the first working prototype within one year.
So far in the first three months of development his team has managed only to make a prototype that can introduce itself and ask WH questions which begin with "what, where and why". That is not a bad start but the prototype cannot understand the user's answers and it still is incapable of asking "yes or no " questions. It's very good at asking " What did you say?". Unfortunately that kind of response will only frustrate the users and make them want to get their money back.
Tom just came out of a meeting with his boss. His boss told him he has a month to at least get the robot to understand the user's questions and answers and to ask some "yes or no" questions.
